Squid Videogame
Squid game clone
A dynamic and addictive 2D casual game developed in Unity, where timing and precision are your greatest allies.
🧠 Project Overview
"Squid Jump" is a side-scrolling arcade-style game created as part of my Unity development journey. The game focuses on simple mechanics but offers a highly engaging experience with increasing difficulty and endless progression.
🎮 Gameplay Features
- Pointer-based control: Tap or click to control the squid’s jump direction and trajectory.
- Coin collection: Gather coins to increase your score.
- Distance tracker: Monitor how far you’ve traveled to challenge yourself or compete with friends.
- Mines and traps: Avoid underwater mines that instantly end the game upon collision.
- Endless gameplay: Keep playing until you hit an obstacle—then try again to beat your high score!
🛠️ Technologies Used
- Unity: The core engine used for building the game mechanics, physics, and rendering.
- C# scripting: For controlling the squid’s behavior, collision logic, and game flow.
- Unity UI system: For score display, distance tracking, and game over prompts.
- Simple 2D assets and animations: Used to create a fun and colorful underwater environment.
🚀 What Did I Learn?
- How to structure a complete game loop in Unity (start, play, game over).
- Use of physics-based motion for intuitive and responsive gameplay.
- Implementing UI elements for live score updates and distance tracking.
- Creating replayable gameplay through procedural difficulty and minimalistic design.
🎯 Final Thoughts
Squid Jump was the perfect project to explore casual mobile game design. It taught me the value of simplicity in gameplay mechanics while still challenging the player. It’s a fun, fast-paced game that’s easy to pick up and hard to put down.
