Videoclub
Multiplartform app for video renting with client-server architecture
A full-featured Laravel-based web application for video rental management with a client-server architecture.
🧠 Project Overview
Videoclub is a multiplatform video rental app developed using Laravel for the backend and Blade templates for the frontend. The project aimed to simulate a classic video rental system, including movie listings, user management, rentals, and administrative tools.
It was one of the first projects where I fully explored Laravel as a complete backend framework, having previously worked mainly with Node.js. This shift provided a deeper understanding of structured backend architecture and improved my grasp of MVC patterns.
🎯 Objectives
- Learn and apply the Laravel framework for backend development.
- Explore Blade templating for dynamic front-end generation.
- Implement a client-server architecture with exposed APIs.
- Manage users, routes, models, and controllers efficiently.
🛠️ Technologies Used
- Laravel (PHP)
- Blade (Laravel's templating engine)
- Bootstrap (for responsive and quick UI development)
- MySQL (for database handling)
- Laravel Routing & Middleware (for API and route management)
💡 Key Features
- User management: Register, login, and role-based access (admin vs client).
- Movie database: Add, edit, delete, and browse movies.
- Rental system: Users can rent movies and track return dates.
- API routes: Exposed endpoints for integration with other frontends or mobile apps.
- Responsive design: Optimized UI with Bootstrap components.
🚀 What I Learned
- The power of Laravel’s MVC architecture and how it encourages clean separation of concerns.
- How to structure and manage RESTful APIs within Laravel.
- Efficient database interaction using Eloquent ORM.
- How to integrate routing, authentication, and middleware for real-world workflows.
- The difference in complexity and flexibility between Laravel and Node.js when building scalable applications.
💬 Final Thoughts
This project pushed me to become more confident in backend development. Laravel gave me the tools to quickly build robust features while maintaining a clean and maintainable codebase. Videoclub not only taught me Laravel, but also helped me understand how to design backend systems that are extensible, secure, and API-ready.
