Run Tracker
Run tracker iOS application
An iOS application designed to track running activity using native device sensors.
🧠 Project Overview
This project was developed as part of my Master's program, with the objective of building a native iOS application that could track a user’s walking and running sessions. While there are many running apps available on the market, the main goal here was to gain hands-on experience with native iOS libraries and sensors.
🏃♂️ Key Features
- Pedometer integration for step tracking.
- Accelerometer and motion detection to monitor running vs. walking behavior.
- Heart rate support (for compatible devices) to track fitness intensity.
- Apple Watch compatibility, allowing users to track their sessions directly from their wrist.
- Real-time data updates and session summaries.
🛠️ Technologies and APIs Used
- Core Motion: To access motion data from the accelerometer and gyroscope.
- HealthKit: To fetch heart rate and other health metrics.
- SwiftUI/UIKit: To build an adaptive, responsive UI for both phones and watches.
- WatchKit: For developing the companion Apple Watch experience.
🚀 What Did I Learn?
- How to access and handle real-time motion and health data using native iOS frameworks.
- How to design and optimize interfaces for both iPhone and Apple Watch form factors.
- Learned about energy-efficient programming for wearable apps where battery usage matters.
- Improved understanding of sensor data interpretation and user-centered app flows.
🎯 Final Thoughts
This app was a great opportunity to explore native iOS development at a deeper level. It challenged me to think beyond just the UI and into the physical capabilities of the hardware. Even though similar apps exist, building it from scratch was a highly valuable learning experience.
