Defensa Mística

Tower defense game made

A tower defense game designed with Unity, combining progressive levels, visual effects, and monetization features.

🧠 Project Overview

This project was developed during my Master's program and is conceptually similar to the Maze videogame project. The goal was to create a functional and engaging tower defense game, featuring enemies, towers, wave mechanics, and level progression.

While the player-facing content included pre-built character models and sound effects, all gameplay logic, level generation, and design structure were built from scratch in Unity.

🏰 Gameplay Mechanics

  • Tower placement and upgrades: Players can build and upgrade towers to defend against incoming enemy waves.
  • Progressive difficulty: Each level introduces new challenges, stronger enemies, and different layouts.
  • Auto-generated levels: Some level structures were generated programmatically for replayability.
  • Victory conditions: Survive the waves and defend the base. Losing all lives means restarting the level.

💰 Monetization Features

  • Unity Ads integration: Rewarded ads were implemented to offer in-game bonuses, like extra lives or currency.
  • Designed with future monetization potential in mind (e.g. power-ups, skins, premium maps).

🎨 Design & Resources

  • Character models: Sourced and adapted from public asset libraries.
  • Sound effects and visual effects: Selected and integrated to enhance immersion and game feel.
  • User Interface: Focused on clarity, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness.

🚀 What Did I Learn?

  • Advanced Unity programming: level management, enemy AI, wave spawning, and game loop control.
  • UI/UX design principles for mobile games.
  • How to incorporate ads and monetization in a way that complements the gameplay experience.
  • The balance between fun and challenge in game progression design.

🎯 Final Thoughts

"Defensa Mística" was one of the most entertaining projects to build. It combined creativity, strategy, and technical complexity in a single, cohesive experience. The process also gave me valuable insight into the mobile gaming market and how to design with monetization and replayability in mind.
